Effect of vagotomy on the gastric secretory response to intraduodenal osmotic agents in man.

چکیده
The effect of intraduodenal infusion of hypertonic saline and glucose on pentagastrin-stimulated gastric secretion was investigated in 35 normal subjects, 32 duodenal ulcer patients and 32 patients after truncal vagotomy and pyloroplasty. A significant gastric inhibitory response occurred after 0.51 M saline and 1-03 M glucose in the normal subjects and duodenal ulcer patients but after vagotomy there was no inhibition. This finding suggests that the inhibitory effect of these agents depends, at least in part, on a vagal reflex in man. The response to very high glucose concentrations persisted after vagotomy and it seems likely that a humoral mechanism may be involved in this situation.

Fat inhibition of gastric acid secretion in duodenal ulcer patients before and after proximal gastric vagotomy.
In seven duodenal ulcer patients the effect of intraduodenal infusion of 20 ml oleic acid on submaximal gastric acid secretion stimulation by a continuous pentagastrin infusion was evaluated before and after proximal gastric vagotomy. In the control tests 20 ml of saline was given. Before vagotomy, oleic acid evoked a significant inhibition of gastric acid secretion of 25% compared with the con...

متن کاملEffect of esophagus distension on gastric blood flow, gastrin and somatostatin secretion in rat
Abstract Introduction: There are many studies about the inhibitory effect of the esophageal distention (ED) on gastric motility. Recently, it has been shown that ED decreases the gastric secretions. It is well established that the inhibitory effect of ED is mediated by activation of vago-vagal inhibitory reflex. However, there is not any investigation about the effect of the reflex on the gast...
متن کاملEffect of proximal gastric vagotomy on gastric acid secretion and plasma gastrin.
Sixteen patients underwent proximal gastric vagotomy (highly selective vagotomy) for chronic duodenal ulceration. All were subjected to preoperative and postoperative acid secretion studies. A reduction in the secretory response to pentagastrin and abolition of the response to meat extract occurred postoperatively. Plasma gastrin levels in response to meat extract were studied by radioimmunoass...
متن کاملA comparison between the effects of hexamethonium and atropine in combination and of vagotomy with gastrojejunostomy on human gastric secretion.
This study records the gastric secretory response, using the Kay augmented histamine test, and compares "medical" vagotomy with atropine and hexamethonium with "surgical" vagotomy. The results suggest that it may be of value in predicting the effect of vagotomy with gastrojejunostomy.
